Women’s Division
In the Women’s Division, Brooke Patterson finished day one with a score of 69 (-3). Patterson won the Women’s State Amateur in 2020 and is in a stellar position to maintain her lead for day two. Patterson started the day off strong with birdies on her first two holes and kept the momentum going. She added birdies on 9, 11 and 15 to gain a 4 shot lead going to round two on Friday.
Tied for second place, Nicole Suppelsa, who will be a super senior for Boise State Women’s Golf, and Grace Singpraseuth shot scores of 73 (+1). Suppelsa had two birdies on the front nine to turn at even par but said the putts just weren’t falling on the back. Singpraseuth had two birdies on the day but was very steady with a lot of pars throughout her round. Both players are looking to make strides up the leaderboard on day two.
The Women’s Division will tee off at 1:15 PM on Friday.
Men’s Division
As we wrap up day one of the State Amateur Championship at Falcon Crest Golf Course, the men finished in the a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard. Nick Roberts, Josh Gilege, Jose Suryadinata all shot 67 (-5). Roberts scored a 30 on the front nine making six birdies on holes 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, and 9. When asked how he managed to go 6-under on the front nine, Roberts said, “I just tried to hit it close to the pin and make those putts.” Similar to Roberts front nine, Gilege made five birdies in a row on holes 2 through 5. Suryadinata had his fair share of birdies making six for the day on holes 1, 4, 6, 9, 11, and 12 with only one bogey on the day.
Close behind, Jason Huff and Skylar Eubank are tied for fourth with scores of 68 (-4). Eubank had a phenomenal day with an eagle on the eleventh hole and four birdies. Huff also joined the six-birdie club for the day. Boise State junior, Alex Talbot, shot 69 (-3), while Justin Merz, Tristan Belue and Jesse Hibler were also in red figures at 70 (-2).
The men will be teeing off at 7:30 am.
